Arlington National Cemetery to Host Women in Military Service Tour
From Arlington National Cemetery:
In recognition of Women's History Month, Arlington National Cemetery and the Women in Military Service for America Memorial announce a special guided tour of the Women's Memorial from 9 to 10 a.m. Thursday.
The Women in Military Service for America Memorial is the only major national memorial honoring all women who have defended America throughout history. Their patriotism and bravery are a part of our nation's heritage. Visitors to the Women's Memorial experience the collective history of women in the military along with the individual stories of registered servicewomen.
The tour will be led by Olga Zoltan. The tour is free, though reservations are required and space is limited. To make a reservation, please call 703-892-2606. The Women's Memorial is accessible via Metro's Blue Line and parking is available at the Arlington National Cemetery Visitors Center.
The Women's Memorial:
- Recognizes all women who have served in or with the United States Armed Forces -- past, present and future;
- Documents the experiences of these women and tells their stories of service, sacrifice and achievement;
- Makes their contributions a visible part of our history;
- Illustrates their partnership with men in defense of our nation; and
- Serves as inspiration for others.
The Women in Military Service for America Memorial is located at the entrance to Arlington National Cemetery and is directly across Memorial Bridge from the Lincoln Memorial at the end of Memorial Drive. The Women's Memorial houses an exhibit gallery, hall of honor, gift shop, theater, upper terrace, court of valor and, the heart of the memorial, a computerized register containing more than 250,000 individual stories of registered servicewomen.
Admission to the Women's Memorial is free and open to the public daily.
