Burger King Might Reopen in Lake Ridge

After being closed since 2006, the former Burger King property is under contract to a Burger King area manager.

After being closed since 2006, the Burger King at Tackett’s Mill in Lake Ridge may reopen.

Ron Devine, of A&R Foods, currently has the property under contract. It will go before the Planning Commission in the first week of August, said Kim Hosen, chair of the County Planning Commission, and Occoquan District Planning Commissioner. The sale will not be completed unless the Planning Commission approves Devine’s application.

For Devine, this Burger King is very familiar.

“I built that store back in the 80s,” Devine said. He plans to serve as both owner and operator.

When the previous franchise ran out in 2006, Devine’s partner sold it to a Chevy Chase Bank. When Chevy Chase was taken over by Capital One, Capital One decided against building a bank in that location.

If Devine’s application is approved, the County Planning Office hopes that he’ll improve the sidewalk and put in some pedestrian crossing areas.

“We’re looking for them to continue to treat the property as a pedestrian asset,” Planning Office Liaison John Lassiter said. He stressed that this was only a request and was not a requirement for Devine.

Devine said he’s found the county very receptive to his plans.

“We’re real excited,” Devine said.

According to the Prince Wiliam Extra section of today's Washington Post, a special user permit for the restaurant has been proposed for review. This means public hearings will be held.

Davin, that's correct. We will be covering the public hearings once they make their way to the Board of County Supervisors.

Yep, it was convenient, and a nice change of pace for "fast food" night. So where does it stand now?
