Nearly half of those evacuated took shelter at the school, said Principi. But, 17 residents of the mobile home parks did not chose to evacuate their homes.

The biggest concern for the residents that have lost their homes is information, said Principi in a phone call.  People are unsure of how long the shelter will remain open, when they can return to the mobile home communities and what to do after the water subsides.

Principi said that he and the shelter, operated by the Red Cross and the county’s Department of Social Services, is working with local non-profits to help the families in need with basic supplies.

The best way people can help, Principi said, is to donate cash to the Red Cross and earmark it for Prince William County.
