Crowds have begun filling into the audience space at the VFW. Patch will update when the first lady arrives. 

Update, 11:20 a.m.

Umbrellas, folding chairs and books were prevalent this morning while waiting for the first lady.

Two men stood at the intersection of Stratford & Minnieville and cheered "Go Mitt!" while cars pulled into the VFW parking lot just after 10 a.m.

At 11:10 a.m., 500 people were estimated to be in line, which snaked around the building and parking lot perimeter.

Event goers were encouraged to register to vote by Obama campaign staff.

Crowds have started to queue up Thursday morning in anticipation of first lady Michelle Obama's arrival to Dale City VFW Post 1503. 

The first lady is scheduled to give a campaign speech for her husband President Barack Obama today at noon. The grassroots effort is the first visit to Dale City for the first lady. Virginia is widely considered to be a battleground state and a must-win in the 2012 presidential election.

On Minnieville Road en route to the VFW post, the road is lined with signs touting GOP challenger Mitt Romney, the presumptive GOP nominee for president.

One Obama supporter had a sign while in line outside the building that read "12 more Michelle in 2016."
