New Commuter Parking Lot Construction Underway

Department of Transportation expects it to be finished by Aug. 31 of this year.

In February last year, Virginia Secretary of Transportation Sean T. Connaughton announced that a new commuter parking lot would be constructed in Woodbridge to account for the loss of parking spaces at the Potomac Mills commuter lot.

The construction has started near the intersection of Telegraph Road and Caton Hill Road, close to the current Horner Road commuter lot.

Prince William County Department of Transportation Director Tom Blaser said in an email that Tavares Construction was awarded the contract for the 600-parking space park-and-ride lot.

Last year, Virginia Department of Transportation said that construction of the Telegraph Road lot would cost $7.2 million and would take about a year to construct.

Blaser said the lot is anticipated to be completed by Aug. 31, 2012.
