The life of Robert G. Haggerty was celebrated May 25 in a wake at Mountcastle Funeral Home in Woodbridge.

Haggerty, a long time Woodbridge resident and a Life Member of OWL Volunteer Fire Department, passed away April 15 in his home in Compton, MD.

"Mr. Haggerty served as a Delegate to the Prince William County Fireman's Association and the Prince William County Fire Board.  He held the rank of Assistant Fire Chief and President and was a member of the Board of Directors of OWL VFD," a prepared statement from OWL read.

Four members of the Fire Department Honor Guard from OWL Volunteer Fire Department Station 2 took turns standing watch at the wake, in full dress uniform.

Haggerty will be buried May 26 at 11 a.m. at Quantico National Ceremony in a graveside service with military honors, in recognition of his service in the Marine Corps from 1950 to 1952. While serving as a marine, he was injured on board battleship USS New Jersey.

In memory, contributions may be sent to the OWL Volunteer Fire Department at 910 Highams Court in Woodbridge.
