Precision on "Broadway;" Vikings Marching Band Photo Gallery

WSHS Vikings Marching Band debuted seasonal pieces.

Woodbridge Senior High School's Viking Marching Band debuted a new repertoire of three selections for their 2010-20111 season last night.

Last evening was the first time Vikings Marching Band parents had the opportunity to hear the band's pieces with added choreography. But, band director Mark Carder admits that the work has just begun.

"We have some really neat packages coming up," said Carder in-between the band's selections. "We're still in a rough draft stage."

Selections for this year fall under the "Broadway" theme, sampling from musicals such as "Jesus Christ Superstar," "Jekyll & Hyde" and the "Blue Man Group."

The group is headed to Disney World from Nov. 4 - 7 and will be performing in the Magic Kingdom parade.

"We've been practicing since the first week in June, learning marching fundamentals and the music first," said Carder. "It is an ongoing process."

Out of the 76 members of the marching band, Carder estimates that about 50 percent of the group are younger marchers, some sophomores and juniors that have never marched before.

Woodbridge will be hosting the Woodbridge Viking Invitational Marching Band Festival on Sept. 25.

The band's first at-home appearance will be the Sept. 16 football game against Stafford High.
