Severe Thunderstorm Watch Issued Tuesday

One inch of rain could fall in a short period of time.

The National Weather Service has issued a severe thunderstorm watch for Prince William County until 10 p.m. Tuesday night.

NWS forecast calls for thunderstorms with torrential downpours. At 7:27 p.m., dopple radar indicated thunderstorms along a line extending two miles southeast of Laytonsville, MD to Chantilly, VA.

"The thunderstorm will produce up to one inch of rain in a very short period of time," said NWS. "Which could likely cause significant ponding as well as rises on creeks and streams."

A flash flood warning has also been issued for western Prince William County, Manassas Park and Manassas City until 10:30 p.m.
