Woodbridge Bloom to Close, Company Converts Back to Food Lion Brand
One Woodbridge store will be closing, others will be converted into Food Lions.
Delhaize American, the company that owns Bottom Dollar, Food Lion and Bloom grocery stores, announced Wednesday that it will be closing and converting stores in Woodbridge.
The company is aiming to “strengthen Food Lion brand” by closing 113 underperforming Food Lion stores where the company has the least store density.
Additionally, the company is converting 64 Bloom and Bottom Dollar Food stores to Food Lions in Virginia, Maryland and North Carolina; but will eliminate underperforming stores in overlapping markets.
All affected stores will close within 30 days and store conversions will begin immediately.
“As a result of these actions, approximately 4,900 associates will be displaced. The company will provide severance to eligible associates, and will work with government officials to assist with transition support,” states a press release.
In Woodbridge, the 5592 Staples Mill Plaza Bloom will be converted to a Food Lion. The Lake Ridge Bloom in Dillingham Square will also be converted. Two Woodbridge Bottom Dollar locations at 14641 and 13414 Jefferson Davis Highway will be converted to Food Lions as well.
Bloom at 14055 Noblewood Plaza will close entirely.
The Bloom brand will be retired as the company tries to bring back Food Lion. “As we believe the stores will better meet customer needs through low prices and quality products,” said a press release.

We have a house in Norththumberland County VA. We live in Reedville. I love Food Lion there and always shop there. I was really upset when Food Lion closed here.
Cannot wait for it to open back up. Janet Ferris

I attempted to go to the Bloom off prwm pky last night about 9 and saw the note on the door of the early closings at 6 PM, that was a shock, I didnt find Bloom to be expensive, it was 1 of the cheaper stores, verses Giant and Safeway,,, you can't think you will find bread for 25 cents a loaf anymore , that was 50 yrs ago, LOL, I never liked food lion, the meats was horrible,,, so needless to say , Bloom will be missed ,

I don't see why they'd waste the money changing the name back from Bloom. The Food Lion in Blacksburg, VA looks identicals to our Bloom(s) inside. It will be the same store with the same products and the same prices. This will be good news for the Dumfries Bottom Dollar though, because they have less choice than the Super Walmart across the street but their prices can't match Walmart's. Bringing a Food Lion to that location may bring more customers if they carry products you can't get at Walmart.

Also, I agree with Renee that Bloom is not expensive. It is cheaper than Giant, Safeway, Harris Teeter, and even Shoppers - so I can't exactly answer that poll question

We love the Bloom's in Montclair. Hope they leave it alone. We lived in Florida for ten years and Food Lion had a bad reputation, we never shopped there.

Vinny,
I usually add an "other - tell us in the comments" option to the polls. Didn't add it to this one, but I can go back in and add it!

Oops! Thanks :). I do beleive that they will leave all of the local Bloom stores alone and will change the signage, especially since I have recently seen more than one Food Lion with the same remodel job and layout as our Bloom stores. The biggest improvement will be for the local Bottom Dollar stores.

Change the name to "Wegman's" and then I'll shop there. :) Or how about "Trader Joe's" or "Whole Foods?"

If Food Lion carries the same products, and has a significant organic and gluten free section like Bloom, then I will continue to shop there. Otherwise, it's to Harris Teeter or Wegmann's.

i like BLOOM, their produce were more fresher than other stores. Food Lion looks trashy and their food does not look fresh at all...
