Woodbridge Commute Ranks Near Bottom of National List
Study says Woodbridge has a bad commute among small-sized communities.
Most Woodbridge residents have one heck of a commute. Or at least, that’s what a new study asserts.
The study done by On Numbers – a Bizjournals.com blog – compiled data from the U.S. Census Bureau's 2009 American Community Survey. It awarded points for every commuter who takes less than 30 minutes to get from home to his or her job, and it took away points for every commuter above that threshold.
Out of 3,012 “small” communities – populations between 10,000 and 50,000 – Woodbridge ranked 2,938. Woodbridge was sandwiched between Franconia and Hybla Valley, both Fairfax County locations.
Population from the 2009 Census says Woodbridge has approximately 34,778 residents. Of that number, the study said that 35.67 percent of residents have a commuting time of 45 minutes or more. A mere 14.68 percent of Woodbridge residents had a commuting time of 14 minutes of less.
Those times put Woodbridge far worse than the national average, with 15.5 percent having a commute longer than 45 minutes, and 28.7 percent having a commute of less than 15 minutes.
By comparison, the best commute for small communities was Altus, OK, where a whopping 80.5 percent of the 19,345 residents take less than 15 minutes to drive to work.
Nearby Dale City was ranked dead last as worst commute for mid-sized communities.

Not really surprised by this. On a good day it can be less than an hour.

I am serving on a committee to promote telework. If anyone has suggestions, I'll be glad to carry them back.
