Woodbridge Crime: Man Charged with Rape

Police investigated alleged rapes between August of 2009 until April of 2012

A Woodbridge man has been charged with rape after a police investigation.

The victim, an 18-year-old Woodbridge woman, told police she had been sexually assaulted by the man—a known acquaintance—several times between August 2009 and April 2012.

Prince William County Police arrested the man, who has a court date on June 19. Police said the victim remains in custody of family.

Why do you always omit the names and details of crimes committed? Political Correctness?

Lou,
Thanks for your question.
In cases of rape where the victim knew the accused we omit the name because it could inadvertently identify the victim. It is common practice to not identify  sexual assault victims. For cases that are not felonies, but are low-level misdemeanors, it is Patch policy that we don't name those involved because we don't have the manpower to follow up on every charge.
