Another alternative, after a vet check of course, is interactive toys that keep the kitty occupiedRead Mored uring the day. Then there is always checking into the possibility of a "New Pal". That usually involves a new addition to the family, but it might help. May I ask if the problem really isn't that the family finds itself in a position unable to afford kitty any longer? Though I was raised to believe that once you have brought an animal into your home you have made a pact to this animal for its life, however, I suppose there are always situations where that pact needs breaking and perhaps it best to find the animal a new home.

Sometimes a repositioning of these things helps immensely. Then there's the "Shy Guys" that like their privacy & the litter box out of the line of traffic.
