The Road to Independence Gala provides a festive and elegant setting for community and business leaders and supporters to celebrate the impact of Northern Virginia Family Service (NVFS) on families and children in need. It also recognizes the generous donors and supporters who are dedicated to giving back to the community.

John Jumper, CEO of SAIC, is the gala chair. 

The gala features a vast array of silent and live auction items, personal testimonies by select clients whose lives have been impacted by NVFS, and recognizes the Community Champion and the Legends of Northern Virginia for their significant contributions to the lives of children and families in our community.

SERVE was established in the 1970s and merged with Northern Virginia Family Services in 2009. They provide a number of programs for the poor, including operating a 60-bed shelter, feeding 900 families through their food distribution center, offering transitional housing facilities and giving emergency assistance for families in need. SERVE seeks to eliminate poverty and homelessness and services Prince William, Manassas and Manassas Park.
