Doggie Tales is a reading program sponsored by PWPLS and Therapy Dog International where children ages 4-11 come and read to a few canine friends. Come by and read to a dog or just drop in for a visit. No sign up required.

Starlight Craft Time: A Craft Time for Families
Wednesday, 6/20/2012, 7:15 PM to 8:15 PM at Potomac Community Library
Pick up a craft pass at the Information Desk for your child beginning at 7:00 p.m. the day of the program. Only one (1) craft kit will be distributed per pass; the first 30 crafters will be admitted.

Mysterious Bats: Program and Craft presented by Jerry Schneider (5 times/locations)
For children ages 6 through 12. Listen as Jerry Schneider describes the fascinating habits and habitats of bats with the help of amazing slides and taped bat calls. Learn about bats in your attic; vampire bats, migration and hibernation. Bring a light colored t-shirt and you can make your own bat t-shirt! T-shirts will also be available to purchase.

Wednesday, 6/20/2012, 3:30 PM to 4:30 PM at Central Community Library
Space is limited to the first fifty (50) children. FREE tickets available beginning June 13.

Wednesday, 6/20/2012, 10:30 AM to 11:30 AM at Bull Run Regional Library
Admission is by FREE token. Tokens will be available 30 minutes before the program begins.

Wednesday, 6/20/2012, 1:00 PM to 2:00 PM at Independent Hill Neighborhood Library
Space is limited to the first fifty children.

Thursday, 6/21/2012, 11:00 AM to 12:00 PM at Potomac Community Library
Pick up free tickets beginning June 14th; each child attending must have a ticket. Limit 50.

Thursday, 6/21/2012, 2:00 PM to 3:30 PM at Chinn Park Regional Library
Free tokens will be given out to the first 50 children ages 6 through 12 one half-hour before the program begins.

Saturday, 6/23/2012, 10:30 AM to 12:00 PM at Dale City Neighborhood Library
Space is limited to the first fifty children. For children ages 6 to 12.

Dragon Feathers presented by the Bob Brown Puppets (2 times/locations)
Silly, not scary, dragon marionettes perform feats of skill and daring in a continual changing collage of some of Bob’s zaniest, goofy characters in a completely irresistible show. For children ages two and up with a caregiver.

Decorate a Beach Hat to wear this summer! Hats or caps plus lots of fun decorations to apply are provided, as well as light refreshments.

Solar Cooking in the Courtyard

In the Courtyard, Solar Cookers International will be cooking up some delicious dishes to taste, along with demonstrations on building your own solar cooker with a pizza box and a potato chip bag! See how you can cook without using electricity or gas! Great for your daily cooking, camping, picnics, outdoor activities and most importantly for countries in the world where there is a scarcity of resources. Pat Mcardle, author of “Farishta,” will be participating in this event. Drop in; no registration required.

Reading with Ritz
Monday, 6/25/2012, 1:30 PM to 2:30 PM at Central Community Library
Ritz is a very friendly, lovable, female golden retriever who loves to listen to stories. children ages 6 to 12 bring your own book or use one of ours and read to Ritz! Registration is required and may be done in person or by phone. Registration begins one week before each session beginning June 18. Each reader signs up for a specific 10 minute time period.

Odds & Ends – How Native American Children Lived
Tuesday, 6/26/2012, 2:00 PM to 3:00 PM at Potomac Community Library
Join “Hands-on History” and see how Native American children lived in their villages. Explore the skills they would have learned from their parents, learn the games that would teach them to be good hunters, and make a “talking feather” to take home. For children entering grades 1-5. Please pick up a free pass beginning at 1:30 p.m the day of the program. Limit 30.

Music and Motion
Tuesday, 6/26/2012, 10:45 AM to 11:45 AM at at Central Community Library
Summer group fun! Come to our music and movement program every two weeks where everyone will have a blast movin” and groovin” to the beat.
Other Information: For ages 2 – 5, accompanied by an adult. Drop in, no registration required.

Reptiles Alive! (2 times)
A wildly exciting, interactive show that with awesomely BIG, slithering reptiles. Have a close encounter with a giant python, alligator, tortoise, monitor lizard, and other amazing reptiles.

Learn about birds of prey, their habitats, and habits when Kent Knowles of the Raptor Conservancy of Virginia brings several of these fierce birds to the library.

Howl at the Moon with a Wild Thing Tune

Tom Sieling sings humorous songs about our natural world accompanying himself on guitar, banjo, harmonica and even a drum machine.
For ages 2 & up. Pick up free tickets beginning June 21st; each person attending must have a ticket. Limit 125.

Angry Birds Live!
Thursday, 6/28/2012, 7:00 PM to 9:00 PM at Bull Run Regional Library
Can’t get enough Angry Birds? Make angry birds and menacing piggies then put them together with a rubber band launcher and a few stackable obstacles for a live action Angry Birds game. Registration begins here on June 14th.
