Dale City Rec Center to Provide Temporary Housing for Flooding Evacuees

Starting at 8 p.m. Saturday the facility will close to the public.

Update, Sept. 13, 9:25 a.m.: A message from the county on the shelter:

At this point, 29 families - approximately 140 people - are using the recreation center. These families' immediate and greatest need is housing, as the shelter will close at noon on Friday, Sept. 16. If you have property or know of properties that these families could rent, and that would waive a security deposit, first and last month rents, please contact communications@pwcgov.org.

Flood evacuees currently seeking shelter at will be provided with temporary housing at the  until Sept. 16. The shelter at WSHS will close at 9 a.m. Sunday and people will be transferred to the other shelter location. 

Due to the recent flooding and home loss at the Holly Acres mobile home park, among other communities, the center will be closed for the public to accommodate the evacuees.

The shelter at the recreation center will be operated by the American Red Cross, and will close to the public at 8 p.m. and will not re-open until Sept. 16 at 1 p.m. 

All currently running programs except for the state-licensed preschool at the center's annex are canceled until Sept. 16.

Passholders may use the until the center re-opens. 

The county announced information about donations: 

"Groups and individuals wishing to make donations are encouraged to make cash donations to the response organizations (American Red Cross, Prince William Chapter – www.AmericanRedCross.org, click on Donate Funds and then click on your local Red Cross Chapter; and Virginia Disaster Relief Fund – www.vaemergency.com) and NOT clothing or food. When the time comes, locations for donation drop off will be determined and announced."
