YouTube user Dan Perjar caught the fireball on video over Raleigh. His video had been seen more than 16,000 times by mid-morning Friday.

If you saw the fireball, the AMS has an official fireball report form.

According to the AMS, "a fireball is another term for a very bright meteor, generally brighter than magnitude -4, which is about the same magnitude of the planet Venus as seen in the morning or evening sky."
