Potomac Community Library hosts a weekend booksale in conjunction with their 35th anniversary.

With a parade of fiction and boat tour video cassettes towering in his arms, bargain-hunter Josh Lester waits to be checked out.

"I'll have to come back for a second round," Lester said, as he reshuffles his assemblage.

In a three day celebration of Potomac Community Library's 35th anniversary, the Friends of Potomac Library Book Sale continues today from 10 a.m. - 4 p.m. off Opitz Boulevard.

There couldn't be a better way to celebrate. Material proceeds went to support library programs.

A last minute bargain, hardbacks for $1 and paperbacks for 50 cents, will wrap up Sunday from 12 noon to 2 p.m.. A dollar will get you all the books you can fit inside a brown paper grocery bag.

The sale is in the Community Room, located on the immediate left upon entry. The book sale featured everything from children's books to video cassettes, from novel to vinyls.

Among the literature available were encyclopedias, references, cookbooks and magazines. Books on management from the Business/Technical section were piled upon by shoppers onto those from the Arts and Crafts.

"It's great because these used books have a little more character to them," Lester said. "There's something about a book that's already been appreciated, a little extra guarantee. Plus it really beats paying a retailer some outrageous inflated price."

Everyone from children to the versed trailed through the Community Room, looking for something to keep them engaged for the next couple weeks.

"You can forget that libraries have so much to offer beyond books," Lester said while adjusting his Amazon and China boat tour cassettes. "They also have a pretty decent collection of some classic fiction."

Next Saturday on Sept. 18, the Potomac Community Library will host a fencing demonstration and hold "Learn to Talk Like a Pirate," in a separate event. The next day on Sept. 19, two Carnegie Hall veterans Marc Ramirez and Olivia Hajioff will perform on the library's main stage.
