Grab & Go Kids Planner: County Fair, Craft Night & Park Fun

Things to do with the family this week

It might rain this week, but there are plenty of events going on around Woodbridge to help you escape the weather.

  • Head out to the Prince William County Fair everyday until Aug. 20 and enjoy all of the rides, shows, and competitions. Gates open at 3 p.m. Wednesday-Friday and open at 12 p.m. on Sunday.
  • Head over to Potomac Community Library and pick up August’s monthly mind bender contest form and complete it with the whole family.  This month’s topic is “Fun at the Beach.” You could win a prize if you submit your answers! Forms must be completed and turned in by Aug 31 by 9 p.m. for the drawing.
  • Attend Bingo night with the OWL Volunteer Fire Department in Woodbridge on Aug. 17 and Aug. 20 at 5:15 p.m.
  • Help clean out the Potomac Community Library craft closet and make something fun during the Starlight Craft event on Aug. 17 at 7:15 p.m.
  • Have some fun and treats at the Totally Terrific Thursday: Ice Cream Social at Potomac Community Library on Aug. 18 at 11 a.m.
  • Make a “Rainbow Fish Wall Hanging” during Family Craft Night at Chinn Park Regional Library on Aug. 18 at 7 p.m.
  • Help make Lake Ridge Park a more beautiful place and volunteer at the Third Saturday Work Day on Aug. 20 at 10 a.m.
  • Learn how to belly dance with your children ages 16 years and older at Chinn Aquatics and Fitness Center on Aug. 20 at 2 p.m.
  • Support the local middle and high school celebrities by attending a sporting event:
    • Woodbridge Senior High School volleyball scrimmage vs. South County Secondary on Aug. 17 at 5 p.m.
    • Woodbridge Senior High School junior varsity football scrimmage at Freedom High School on Aug. 18 at 5 p.m.
    • Gar-Field Senior High School varsity football scrimmage vs. Lake Braddock Secondary School on Aug. 18 at 7 p.m.
    • Woodbridge Senior High School varsity football scrimmage at Woodson High School on Aug. 19 at 7 p.m.
    • Gar-Field Senior High School varsity golf at Forest Greens Golf Club on Aug. 22 at 9 a.m.
    • Woodbridge Senior High School freshman and varsity volleyball scrimmage vs. Evangel Christian Academy on Aug. 23 at 6 p.m.
  • Head out to Leesylvania State Park for the many events held this week:
    • Nature’s Paintbrush on Aug. 17 at 11 a.m., 1 p.m., and 3 p.m.
    • Spooky Spiders on Aug. 18 at 11 a.m., 1 p.m., and 3 p.m.
    • Terrific Tales for Toddlers on Aug. 19 at 10:30 a.m.
    • GPS: Who’s Hiding in the Park on Aug. 20 at 12 p.m.
