Leesylvania Park Free on Veterans Day

All Virginia State Parks are waiving parking fees for the public on Veteran's Day, and then military families have free access for the rest of the year.

All 35 Virginia State Parks will have free parking for the public this Friday for Veteran’s Day, including . The free pass extends for all Armed Forces Veterans and active military personnel and their families living in Virginia through the rest of the year.

This continues the tradition begun by Virginia Governor Robert McDonnell last year to waive fees on Veteran’s Day. As part the State Parks’ 75th anniversary celebration, Governor McDonnell waived fees for military veterans and active personell and families starting back in May and extended through the end of 2011.

In 1936, during the Great Depression, Virginia became the first state to open a statewide park system in one day. The original six parks have grown to 35, with campsites, cabins, trails, waterway access, hiking, picnic spots, and many natural and cultural programs. The parks are open year-round.

Leesylvania State Park in Prince William County is a 542 acre peninsula boarded by the Potomac River, Neabsco Creek and Powells Creek. It hosts many events and programs throughout the year. It has five hiking trails including a segment of the Potomac Heritage National Scenic Trail.
