Local Boy Scouts Collect Food in Woodbridge

Annual "Scouting for Food" drive was a success for the Occoquan District.

Last week, the Occoquan District Boy Scouts were out in the community collecting "Scouting for Food" donation bags from homes across the area. The annual food drive is a two-weekend process in which scouts first distribute bags neighborhoods and then return to pick-up the full bags.

Bags are then delivered to Chesire Station and Tackett's Mill where they are weighed, put on an Appliance Connection truck and delivered to ACTS Homeless Shelter. Some scout units deliver straight to their local food bank at the church or organization that they are chartered from.

The Occoquan District collected more than 30,700 pounds of food and had over 1,400 participating scouts.
