Weekend Planner: Networking, Volunteer at the Park, and Self-Defense

Why Go: Bring your toddler to the Leesylvania State Park Visitor Center for story time featuring tales about nature. After which toddlers will have time to color.

Where/When: Giorgio’s Family Restaurant, 4394 Kevin Walker Dr., Montclair, Friday Aug. 19, 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m.

Why Go: Join other business women in the area for a networking lunch hosted by Business Women of Prince William County. Exchange business cards, share about your business and talk with like-minded women, with no dues or extra commitment. Marcy Stahl, Mindset and Marketing Mentor for Women Entrepreneurs and Women in Direct Sales, will present a short presentation on “Mindset Secrets of Wealthy Women Entrepreneurs: 4 Keys to Move from Underearning to Abundant Earning.”

Pricing: The price of lunch, around $10.

Where/When: , Saturday Aug. 20, 10 a.m. to 12 p.m.

Why Go: Need volunteer hours? Come to Lake Ridge Park every third Saturday of the month and spend the morning at the park. There will be indoor and outdoor projects to clean up the parks and facilities. Be sure to call ahead to learn about receiving community service hours for various programs, though reservations are not required to volunteer.

Where/When: , Sunday Aug. 21, 11 a.m.

Why Go: Come join a Ranger on a walk through the woods. Learn how the forest is involved in the water cycle during a trek by the wetlands and experience a beautiful overlook of the creek while on your hike. Participants should meet at the Powell's Creek Trailhead.

Pricing: Free.

Where/When: , Sunday Aug. 21, 12 p.m.

Why Go: This is the first of a series of four classes teaching women ages 14 years and older how to defend themselves and their families. This class emphasizes defense tactics and methods that do not require strength or agility, and real life situations will be covered throughout the course. 

Pricing: $45 for four 90-minute classes.
