Lecture Description

If you are interested in being adequately compensated for your photography skills, then this lecture and discussion is for you. Diana will discuss in detail how to improve your portrait fee structure. Bring your portrait price lists, as Diana will challenge and motivate you to change them on the spot. We will give up some cherished illusions about how to compensate ourselves for our: expertise, custom Photoshop enhancements, computers, software, insurance, vehicles, costly cameras, lenses, equipment, studio space, lab fees, research, continuing education, empathy, and finally, our final product -- A portrait that will be 500 times more valuable in 30 years than it is today. We will go home with a new price list -- ready to thrive, not just survive!

About the Speaker

Diana is the first child of a British War Bride and an American soldier. She grew up in Accokeek, Maryland and Dupont Circle in DC until moving to Tangier, Morocco in middle school. She attended Sarah Lawrence College in New York and was an anti-war activist in the '60's. She started her photography business in 1987 in Fairfax, as a commercial photographer, before switching to boudoir and wedding photography during a recession. After many great years of weddings, she has focused exclusively on family and children's portraits since 2003. Diana and her daughter, Justine Ungaro, lead The Modern Portrait Seminars, which teach photographers how to market, price and sell their portrait work.

Studio Diana has been voted one of Washington's best wedding studios in 1998, 1999, 2000, 2001, 2002, 2003, 2004, 2005, 2006, 2007, 2008, 2009, and 2010 in WASHINGTONIAN MAGAZINE. We had our first editorial spread in MARTHA STEWART MAGAZINE this year.

Diana donates free sessions to approximately 50 charities benefitting children each year. She is on the Board of Trustees of Art Connection, a non-profit benefitting artists and non-profit organizations.

Diana does fine-art photography and shows at the Adam Lister Gallery in Fairfax, sells fine-art photographs at Art With Flowers in the Galleria, and is an accomplished painter. Two of her paintings hang in the Freddie Mac lobby in Manhattan. Some of her pop-art photography can be seen at www.padagallery.com.
