Notting Hill to Move Into Vacated Le Gaulois

New restaurant and bar to open at 1106 King St.

Old Town Alexandria has been waiting a long time to find out what is going into the space vacated by the beloved French Le Gaulois restaurant and the wait is over – Notting Hill, opening soon.

The stalwart wooden, Gallic door guardians are gone and the large, front window is covered by a promotional sign. The fence of the outdoor garden area is covered by a banner displaying the image of Pierre-Auguste Renoir’s “Luncheon of the Boating Party” with the announcement that the restaurant and bar Notting Hill will open soon. The garden area appears prepped for renovation.

City permits show the space is undergoing $16,000 worth of alterations and is owned by Shoja-Maddahi Seyed Hossein of Chantilly, Va.

Alterations are listed as drywall repair, drop ceiling placement and replacement of cabinets, tiles and paint as well as $600 for light installation and relocating outlets.

The restaurant’s website, nottinghillrestaurant.com, is very much under construction.

I believe he also recently opened the Parsian restaurant in the 700 block of King Street.

I have spoken to him and he plans a steak & seafood place, with a large wine & scotch selection.

"notting hill" + Parsian + Renoir painting = my low expectations

My husband and I recently had dinner at Notting Hill to celebrate my birthday in February 2013. They've been open since December and have worked out any new restaurant kinks. The food was absolutely delicious. The chef (of former Rustico group) sent out complementary butternut squash soup -- honestly, the best I've ever had. Service was spot on, detailed and courteous. I would highly recommend. As residents of the UKSNA (Upper King Street Neighborhood Area) we welcome an even better restaurant to fill this too-long-vacant spot. Can't wait for the patio to open again this spring.

That is good to hear. I haven't eaten there yet, but have good memories of the garden/patio when it was Le Gaulois.
