Police: Officers Assaulted During Arrest at Wegmans

Two arrested after woman suspected of trespassing at grocery story, according to Prince William County Police.

Two people were arrested Sunday after an altercation with police at the Wegmans at Stonebridge at Potomac Town Center, according to Prince William County Police.

Evern Chiquita Sharpe, 33, of the 16000 block of Geddy Ct, was charged with assault and battery on a law enforcement officer, obstruction of justice, possession of marijuana, false identification to a law enforcement officer, disorderly conduct and trespass.

Abdul Karin Conteh, 28, of 8600 block of Nugent Lane, was charged with 2 counts of assault and battery on a law enforcement officer, obstruction of justice, aiding in the escape of a prisoner and disorderly conduct.

Both are being held without bond and will appear in court March 17.

Officers were called to the grocery store at 5:07 p.m. regarding a person trespassing. Officers located and interviewed Sharpe in the store, noting that she allegedly provided false information about her identification.

Sharpe allegedly became aggressive as officers attempted to handcuff her, according to police spokesman Officer Jonathan Perok.

"The accused lunged towards and kicked an officer attempting to search her belongings," Perok wrote in a statement. "When officers attempted to escort the accused from the building, an unidentified man (Conteh) approached the officers from behind in an aggressive manner and attempted to separate the accused from officers."

At one point, Conteh allegedly struck an officer in the face, according to Perok. The two were eventually contained and escorted to jail. No injuries were reported.
