Although Trader Joes would be great, im kind of content with Wegmans in our area. May be too Big for an Apple store. I would love to see a coastal flats, a Gordon Biersche or even a Macy's? I don't know. Good topic for discussion
Terri Benton September 20, 2012 at 12:04 PM
Jessica, you make a very good point. This has happened many times just to draw customers in. There are so many furniture stores in this area I am surprised that half of them don't go under unless they find 'ways' to get us in their stores.

Seems we have so many retail and food options in this area of the county. For lack of a better word, could some kind of "arcade" type company come in for the older middle school/high school set ?? There's Chuck E Cheese for the wee ones, but we just don't have options for the age 11 - 18 set, except for movies, mall rat hanging out, etc. Is there some type place that caters to the latest games, technology, etc. ??
Diane September 20, 2012 at 12:25 PM
Hey, another idea would be a Cinema and DraftHouse type place like up in Arlington. It's certainly a big enough place.

The entire chain is being closed and stock is being liquidated. The deals will get better the closer they get to their closing date, just like hollywood video and circuit city did. http://www.bizjournals.com/washington/news/2012/07/02/roomstore-liquidation-planned.html

Good point. It has advertise Going Out of Business for about a month now and it is still open. You'd think with the real estate market in a slump, people aren't or can't buy furniture these days
Michelle September 20, 2012 at 01:27 PM
Trader Joes or World Market would be wonderful, I'm constantly having to drive out of the area to go to those.
Elayne September 20, 2012 at 01:33 PM
Trader Joes absolutely perfect place..
G Neary September 20, 2012 at 01:33 PM
I agree with Terri and Eric, Trader Joes. We wouldn't have to travel on 95 to Springfield.
Vinny Darby September 20, 2012 at 01:42 PM
I agree that Trader Joes would be great here. The building is so big it could be subdivided into more than one store, too.
Kevin September 20, 2012 at 01:42 PM
World Market...

Really? With all the empty business locations out there The Room Store Location gets special treatment? I don't get it. No mention of the Food Lion/Bloom on the Parkway that shut down?
Lauren Jost September 20, 2012 at 01:52 PM
J. Walter, We have covered previous locations in Visions for Vacancies, including the Bloom closure. Here's the article on that closure: http://woodbridge-va.patch.com/articles/vision-for-vacancies-bloom-in-noblewood-plaza And links to other Visions for Vacancies: http://woodbridge-va.patch.com/search?keywords=vision+for+vacancies

An Athleta store or an Apple store.
Christina Miller September 20, 2012 at 03:36 PM
Trader Joes, Steinmart or World Market would all be great additions to the area.

Great idea, the one I shopped at near Manassas some time ago was hard to get to and tiny. I loved when I could shop at them when I lived in SoCal many moons ago.
sandra September 20, 2012 at 04:11 PM
I think Hobby Lobby would be perfect for this store.
theflo September 20, 2012 at 04:28 PM
A Marvel Universe Entertainment and Shop. Catering to the teens and adults for Parties and games as well as Marvel Merchandise. They would have enough room for two theatre stlye rooms to watch their incredible library of movies and shows.
Diane September 20, 2012 at 04:46 PM
Yes !! The Marvel Entertainment place would be perfect.......And we can put the Trader Joes over by BJ's in the previous Bloom location.......Now for the Fuddrucker's stand-alone on the Parkway....what to put in there ????
Eric September 20, 2012 at 04:59 PM
I was thinking a Dave & Buster might be good to. Something for the teenagers
Rachel September 20, 2012 at 08:27 PM
World Market would be awesome!!!
crystal maggard September 20, 2012 at 08:41 PM
Honestly I would love to see a private local business owner open up a Draft House. Or something for entertainment in this area besides shopping and movies. We have so many chains in Woodbridge already. Let keep our money with locally owned businesses.
Charlie September 20, 2012 at 09:09 PM
Hey, how about something totally crazy, like a decent non-chain restaurant? An actual fine dining establishment. I've lived here 25 years and have yet to see that. You have to go to Manassas or Occoquan.
Eve September 20, 2012 at 11:49 PM
I agree with Charlie. I'm tired of driving to Fairfax for upscale dining. Ruth Chris, Morton's, Coastal Flats.........
Joan Wright September 21, 2012 at 12:58 AM
Want Trader Joes. We have enough resturants and there is a Global Foods off Smoketown. Times are tough, we don't need some high dollar resturants either.
Jen Arnold September 21, 2012 at 01:54 AM
I'd love to see a Dave & Busters.
Emily September 21, 2012 at 02:08 AM
This would be a great place for Trader Joe's. For them, it would give a great built-in audience being near the mall, 95 & Parkway-- not to mention convenient as people leave the commuter lot. For us, it would mean no more sitting in traffic to get our TJ fix. Great idea!

With all due respect, I can't help but think these "Vision for Vacancies" articles kind of miss the point. It's fine to dream about what business we'd like to have come here, but from what I can tell, we really have little influence over what businesses choose to come here. Something I really don't understand is why PWC consistently ranks in the top 10 most affluent counties in the nation, and yet we are so lacking in high-end and even mid-level retail and dining options. I don't know if businesses see Fairfax as more of a "sure bet," or if local officials are reluctant to approve these kinds of developments. The restaurants coming to the mall are a start, I suppose. But I am unable to fathom why we possibly need yet another 7-eleven and day care in Lake Ridge, which is what is going into the most recent development on Old Bridge. Really? I've written to some of my favorite businesses suggesting PWC would be a great location for them, but to no avail. I can't help but think they are missing a great business opportunity. Good thing there are lots of other things we love about the area, including less traffic than Fairfax, which inevitably comes with increased development. I guess it's a two-edged sword. That said, I would seriously LOVE a Trader Joe's nearby. Maybe it's time to write another letter.

I guess a Barnes and Nobles is out of the question (seeing as they might be out of business in the next couple of years if you believe some business magazines). To be honest, once Stonebridge is completed, I don't see myself going to the side of town where the Room Store currently sits and to be completely honest, what high end business would set up their business in that location? Trader Joes, Planet Wine, etc woud likely go Stoneridge or even Potomac Mills before going to the Room Store side of town. It may attract a lower end business like Golden Corral or perhaps a place with billiards/dart boards/fooseball tables (I think it is too small for a Dave and Busters but perhaps I am wrong).

Menards is a homedepot like at much lower prices and bigger variety superstore selling mostly American made products from the Midwest - Wisconsin - that would bring on new business to Woodbridge since there none out here http://www.menards.com/main/mobile/home.html http://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Menards Products Building materials, tools, hardware, garden supplies, electrical supplies, ceiling fans, light fixtures, cabinets, home appliances, doors, windows, paint, wood stain, wallpaper, plumbing supplies, carpet, vinyl, linoleum, groceries, automotive
