Woodbridge Blockbuster Announces Closing Date

Jefferson Davis Highway location rolling out discounts on merchandise.

The Blockbuster Video store at 1345 Jefferson Davis Highway is selling DVDs, Blu-Rays and various fixtures at a discount in anticipation of next month's final days.

The Woodbridge location will close for good March 24 after an announcement in January that the troubled chain would close 300 stores across the nation. The Lake Ridge location at Dillingham Square will remain open as the last Blockbuster site in the area.

On Tuesday, a large stock of previewed DVDs were selling at the Woodbridge site for $7.99, with seasons of TV on DVD selling for $17.99. A limited selection of discs without boxes was selling for less.

Sharper discounts are expected as the location gets closer to its final days.

For decades, families would make weekly runs to the video store for entertainment. Now, many of the services that Blockbuster stores offer are provided through service station kiosks, mail delivery and online streaming.
