What Flu Season?

Mother Nature causes a dramatic hike in respiratory illnesses yet holds back on the flu.

Neurotic Mother Nature - warm temperatures one day and cold the next - it's been a mixed blessing for the health of our community this winter.  Local fluctuating temperatures have caused a seasonal spike in respiratory illnesses but have held-off the flu in our area.  In fact, at our Woodbridge office, we've seen more respiratory infections, bronchitis and sinusitis than any other illness over the past month.  In all, Doctor Express offices across the country are seeing as much as a 20% increase in respiratory cases while at the same time seeing a dramatic decrease in flu patients from the prior year.

The Center for Infectious Disease Research and Policy warns that the flu may still hit, just a bit later this year.  If that is the case it is a good idea to keep flu prevention tips in mind: wash hands frequently, use a proper hand sanitizer (at least 60% alcohol) if soap and water is not available and clean surfaces with disinfectant.

Enjoy the warm weather and stay healthy!
