County Under Heat Advisory Until Wednesday Night

Keep cool and safe with these tips.

The National Weather Service has issued a heat advisory for Prince William County until 8 p.m. on Wednesday.

Temperatures are expected to soar into the mid-90s but the heat index is predicting temperatures of ove 100 degrees.

According to NWS, a heat advisory indicates that the "combination of hot temperatures and high humidity will combine to create a situation in which heat illnesses are possible."

NWS also advises to stay inside, schedule strenuous activity early in the morning or evening, wear lightweight and loose-fitting clothing when possible and drink plenty of water.

With the heat comes poor air quality. Today's Code Orange index means young and old should stay indoors as much as possible. Make sure your pets have plenty of shade and water if left outdoors.
