Principi: Woodbridge Did Well in Carry-Over Budget

Potomac Heritage Trail, Woodbridge VRE Kiss and Ride parking lot and Senior Center to benefit with new funds.

  • The following is a release from Frank Principi's office. It is unedited.

At their Tuesday meeting, The Board of County Supervisors appended the FY 2012  budget to appropriate carry-over funds.  This end of year budgeting exercise appropriated funds to new or existing programs for one time expenses and added $48 million to county reserves.

The Woodbridge District received significant funding to support several of its programs.  “We did very well in the carry-over budget” said Woodbridge District Supervisor Frank Principi. “In a time where many counties and states are slashing budgets and cutting projects, we are able to maintain and expand our programs.”

The appropriations to the Woodbridge District have extended many of Supervisor Principi’s existing projects. The Potomac Heritage National Scenic Trail will receive funding to help connect an eight-mile stretch in Woodbridge from $2 million allocated for local trails.

Another $7.8 million has been set aside for potential cost overruns during the expansion of the Route 1 corridor. Further benefits to Woodbridge residents will come from the $1.2 million designated for the construction of the VRE Kiss and Ride at the Woodbridge VRE Station, and from the $90,000 intended for a new commuter lot at Tackett’s Mill.

Woodbridge Seniors will benefit from the new bus route being established between the Woodbridge Senior Center and doctors’ offices. The county’s actions come during a time of successful financial management and economic stability.
