and the National Weather Service confirmed a tornado in Dumfries and Quantico yesterday. While there is still no official word from NWS if the tornadoes touched down, resident recall large gusts of wind, sizable hail and heavy rain.

As a reminder, a watch means that the conditions are present for a tornado, not that one has been spotted. Should the watch change to a warning, that means a tornado has been spotted or conditions are imminent. If a warning comes up, NWS says to take cover in an interior room on the lowest level of a building away from windows.

The NWS forecast calls for showers and thunderstorms before 1 p.m. today and says some storms could be severe, with gusty winds and heavy rain.
