Tainted Colorado Cantaloupe Shipped to Virginia

The Centers for Disease control said Tuesday that 72 illnesses, 13 deaths are linked to a listeria illness linked to cantaloupe from Colorado.

An outbreak of a potentially deadly illness called listeria has been tied to cantaloupe from a farm in Colorado.

The Centers for Disease Control said that, "a total of 72 persons infected with the four outbreak-associated strains of Listeria monocytogenes have been reported to CDC from 18 states.  All illnesses started on or after July 31, 2011."  

The Rocky Ford Cantaloupe come from Jensen Farms in Colorado, the company voluntarily recalled the fruit shipped from July 29 through Sept. 10, 2011, and distributed to at least 17 states with possible further distribution.

So far, there have been no deaths reported in Virginia, but one has been reported in Maryland.
