Tornado Watch, Flash Flood Watch in Prince William County

Severe weather advisories for the area.

A tornado watch and a flash flood watch are both in effect today for Prince William County, according to the National Weather Service. 

The tornado watch is in effect through 10 p.m., and the flash flood watch is in effect through midnight

Weather.com coverage is tracking severe thunderstorms across the mid-Atlantic, and the site said that one of the main concerns is the large amount of rain in a short period of time.

"Soils are still moist from heavy rainfall delivered by Tropical Storm Andrea," the organization wrote.   

A tornado watch indicates "conditions are favorable for a tornado and that tornadoes are possible." It is not as severe as a warning, which means a tornado has been sighted or detected on radar.

  • Stock up on candles, matches and battery-operated flashights (as well as plenty of batteries!)
