VDOT: I-95 Widening Project Will Close Lanes

Where to avoid driving until April 21.

From Friday, April 15, to Thursday, April 21, the Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT) has scheduled work for the I-95 Widening and I-95 HOV/HOT Lanes projects. Motorists will experience the following impacts:

  • Friday night, April 15, midnight until 3 a.m. Monday, April 18 the HOV lanes will close from Washington D.C. to Dumfries (Route 234).
  • Saturday, April 16, at 5 p.m., the HOV lanes will reopen northbound from Edsall Road to Washington, D.C.  All HOV lanes will reopen by 3 a.m. Monday morning.
  • The I-95 HOV lanes from Dumfries to the Newington area will close from 10 p.m. to 5 a.m. Monday – Wednesday nights, April 18-20.  During this time, the HOV lanes are open from Springfield area north to Washington D.C.
  • I-95 north from Exit 160, Gordon Blvd. (Route 123) to Exit 161, Richmond Hwy. (Route 1) will close intermittently for up to 30 minutes at a time after midnight Sunday – Wednesday nights, April 17-20.
