What You Need to Know Today: Monday Edition

Start off your week with the dose of information you need to start the week off.

It’s going to be a busy week. Here are the highlights you should know about as you start your week: 

Dog Park Public Hearing

The Park Authority will be holding a public hearing at 7:30 p.m. on Wednesday, March 23. The board will vote on if they want to pursue a lease with the Lake Ridge Parks and Recreation Association's location at Minnieville Road and Colby Drive.

Kim Hosen of the Prince William Conservation Alliance will be moderating a discussion on “Public Access to Public Lands” with Rob Hartwell, Chairman of the Elizabeth Hartwell Environmental Education Fund Congressman Gerry Connolly, Mike Kane of the Washington Smart Growth Alliance Conservation Program and Charlie Grymes, Chairman of the Prince William Conservation Alliance.

The U.S. Government has owned the property that is now the Featherstone National Wildlife Refuge for more than forty years. Dove's Landing, located along the Occoquan River has been owned by Prince William County since 1996. Lake Manassas is an 800-acre water supply reservoir owned by the City of Manassas.

These three publicly owned properties have one thing in common. Although they are valuable potential resources for recreational and educational uses, they are all closed to the public.

with supervisors Mike May and Frank Principi on March 23 at 7 p.m., in the Ferlazzo auditorium. Among the objectives of the town hall is to ensure all are aware of the new parking location at First Baptist Church, the commuter slug, bus, carpool, and vanpool changes taking place at the Eastern Prince William commuter lots, and to continue to provide all commuters the opportunity to provide feedback.  

on Thursday, March 24, 5-8 p.m., to receive the public’s feedback on the proposed design of the North Woodbridge Interchange.  The construction project will expand Route 1 from 4 to 6 lanes from Mary’s Way to Annapolis Way; add sidewalks, trails, and landscaped medians in the area, and eventually raise Route 123 some 23-feet high over Route 1 and the CSX train tracks.  If you have concerns, this is your chance to get on the record so that they may be addressed by VDOT.
