Arrest in Armed Robbery of Cab Driver

Prince William County Police work quickly to identify the first suspect. Second suspect still unknown at at large.

A suspect is in custody in the armed robbery of a cab driver early Thursday, according to Prince William County Police. Investigators are still working to identify a second suspect in the case.

Cory Alexander Patterson, 30, of the 15300 block of Watermill Terrace, is charged with robbery, use of a firearm in commission of a felony, possession of a firearm by a convicted felon and possession of a firearm with a removed or altered serial number. Patterson is being held without bond.

At 3:41 a.m. Thursday, officers responded to the 13700 block of Palm Road regarding a robbery.

The victim, a 54-year-old Woodbridge cab driver, told police he was responding to a call to pick up a customer in the area.

When he arrived, an unknown man got into the backseat of the vehicle. The man reached over the seat, grabbed the victim and demanded money, according to police.

A second suspect approached the cab and reportedly pulled out a handgun. The two men fled on foot with an undisclosed amount of cash.

Detectives were able to identify Patterson and apprehend him in a vehicle stop near his home, according to police.

A handgun was located in Patterson's car and a search of his home also led to the recovery of additional evidence, according to police.
