Bayvue Apartment Fire Displaces 21 Residents

Three firefighters sustained minor injuries.

A fire that started in a in Woodbridge yesterday displaced 21 residents, caused about $100,000 in preliminary damages and left three firefighters with minor injuries, according to Kim Hylander with the Prince William County Department of Fire and Rescue.

"Upon arrival, firefighters encountered heavy black smoke emitting from the third floor apartment," a release stated. "Firefighters proceeded to the third floor, located the fire in the utility room, and began extinguishing the fire. The fire was under control in approximately 15 minutes; however, due to the heat and work required a second alarm was requested to provide additional fire and rescue personnel."

The displaced residents are being helped by the Red Cross.

A building inspector said the building was unsafe. The fire's cause is still being investigated and has not yet been determined.
