Boundary Changes for New School After Public Input

School board postpones vote on map until after public hearing on revised plan.

Release, Prince William County Schools:

Citizens will have two opportunities to comment on revised administrative recommendations on proposed boundaries for the 12th high school prior to a final School Board vote on the matter, now set for June 4.

Original administrative recommendations were altered in response to public feedback received by the School Board. The new "version 1.1" of the recommendations can be seen on the 12th high school attendance area boundary Web site.

The new high school will serve some students from areas currently assigned to Osbourn Park, Hylton, Forest Park, and Brentsville District High Schools, as well as others who sign up for specialty programs. It is scheduled to open in September 2016, with a groundbreaking ceremony set for May 15, 2014 at 9:30 a.m.

In the new boundary recommendations:

1.  Battlefield High School's attendance area is unaffected.
2.  Communities of Nottingham Forest and Calvert Woods are reassigned from Forest Park to High School 12.
3.  East section of Lake Terrapin Estates is reassigned from Forest Park High School to 12th High School.
4.  The Glen and Laurel Hills communities remain at Osbourn Park High School.
5.  Black Forest Lane and Ridgewood Center Drive are reassigned to 12th High School.
6.  Communities west of Lucasville Road and north of Rt. 234 remain assigned to Brentsville High School.
7.  Communities east of Lucasville Road and north Rt. 234, now assigned to Brentsville HS are reassigned to Osbourn Park.

Interested residents may comment on the plans at a public hearing on May 21 at 7 p.m. at the Kelley leadership Center, or in "Citizen's Time" during the regular June 7 School Board Meeting. The June 4th meeting is also scheduled for 7 p.m. at the Kely Leadership Center. The School Board vote on the matter will be held that evening.
