Clerk Shooting: Sentencing on Firearm Charges After Guilty Plea

Defendant pleaded guilty to participating in November 2013 hold-up at U.S. 1 Tobacco store.

A defendant was sentenced last week in federal court for his involvement in violent robberies last November, including the shooting of a store clerk in Woodbridge.

Calvin Leon Lewis, 30, of Washington, D.C., was sentenced to 35 years in prison, followed by five years of supervised release, for two counts of using, carrying and discharging a firearm during and in relation to a crime of violence. 

In April, Lewis pleaded guilty to his participation in the Nov. 14 robbery of the U.S. 1 Tobacco store. In the robbery, a store clerk was shot in the head and suffered serious injuries, according to a release from the U.S. Attorney's Office.

Lewis also pled guilty to charges stemming from his participation in the robbery of an Alexandria Safeway on Nov. 17.
