UPDATE: Police I.D. Driver Killed in I-95 South Tractor-Trailer Accident

Woman was from Woodbridge.

UPDATE, Friday 2:20 p.m. - Virginia State Police identified the victim of the Thursday morning crash as Sarah M. Jones, 29, of Woodbridge, in a news release sent out Friday afternoon.

----------

UPDATE, Thursday 4:50 p.m. - The driver who died in a crash on Interstate 95 near Lorton Thursday morning was a woman driving an orange Kia who pulled into the path of a tractor-trailer as she attempted to merge into southbound lanes, according to a news release from the Virginia State Police. Police are in the process of finding and notifying her next of kin before releasing her identity. The driver died at the scene.

The crash tied up traffic for about four hours, from about 11:37 a.m. until 3:27 p.m., police said in the release.

The driver of the truck, a 49 year-old man from Chesterfield, Va., was transported to Fairfax Inova Hospital where he is being treated for non-life threatening injuries. He was wearing his seat belt, police said. The truck driver was transporting 20,000 pounds of carpet. The name Beaulieu, a carpet manufacturer based in Dalton, Ga., is printed on the truck.

The truck driver attempted to steer clear of the merging car, police said, by swerving to the left. But the two collided and the truck rolled down an embankment and jackknifed, police said.

Police are investigating the cause of the crash.

The world will be a little less brighter with the loss of Sarah. We worked together for many years at WAH and just recently started new endeavors with her at RVRC and myself at The Hope Center. I remember how excited and happy we both were. She will be missed by all her friends and family, and all her extended families in the Veterinary field as well. She was a remarkable, talented, funny, and kind soul. I will miss her laughter, snarky sarcasm, and infectious smile. Thoughts and condolences to her family in this time of loss.
