Dumfries and Alexandria Men Charged With Grand Larceny in Woodbridge

A caller reported a man entering unlocked vehicles parked along Ayrshire Lane in Woodbridge.

Dumfries resident Gavin Simms and Alexandria resident Cameron McWilliams have been charged with grand larceny in the Woodbridge area, Prince William County police spokesperson Jonathan Perok said. 

In the early morning of Aug. 27, a caller told police that an unknown man was looking into unlocked vehicles along Ayrshire Lane and then entering them. 

The man reportedly ran away before police arrived at 4 a.m., but residents in the 700 block of Monument Drive said they had seen him.

"Officers quickly responded to the area and were able to establish a perimeter around the neighborhood," Perok said. "The suspect, Simms, was apprehended a short time later. Through the extensive investigation, detectives from the Property Crimes Unit were able to determine that McWilliams was also involved in the larcenies from vehicles." 

Police got a warrant for McWilliams' arrest and arrested him when he left his house in Alexandria City. The Alexandria Police Department helped with the arrest, Perok said.

"A search warrant was also executed at McWilliams’ residence resulting in numerous items reported missing during the crimes committed in Prince William County," Perok said. 

Simms was charged with five counts of larceny from auto, one count of grand larceny, one count of petit larceny, and one count of possession of burglarious tools. His court date and bond information is unavailable. 

McWilliams was charged with one count of grand larceny and one count of trespassing into auto. His court date and bond information is unavailable.
