Family of Five Displaced in Townhouse Fire

The fire at a home on Birchdale Square caused $80,000 in damages, according to the Prince William County Department of Fire & Rescue.

A family of five was displaced after a fire ripped through their townhouse on Birchdale Square Wednesday night, according to Prince William County Fire & Rescue officials. 

Spokesperson Kim Hylander said that units responded to the fire around 9 p.m., after the four adults and child had safely evacuated the home. Firefighters were able to extinguish the fire, and did not find any extension of the blaze. The Fire Marshal's Office has not determined a cause for the fire, which started in the basement. It remains under investigation. 

The Red Cross is assisting the family, who were displaced by the fire. Damages are estimated at $80,000.
