Forensics Team Investigating Human Remains Found Off Route 234

Update 2:30 p.m.

Perok told Patch that exposed adult bones were found in the woods by a homeowner picking up golf balls in their backyard off Yolanda Lane Wednesday night. Perok said that the homeowner reported the bones to police before 8 p.m. on Wednesday night and a medical examiner collected them that evening. 

"A homeowner a couple houses down -- they were in the woods, they were picking up golf balls in the backyard, and they stumbled across it back there," Perok told Patch. "The medical examiner has the remains. They actually just picked them up last night. It was just difficult for our crime scene people to get back there because it was at night. They waited until today; they're just out there trying to figure out what's up."

Investigators have not yet determined how old the remains are. A forensic investigation continued Thursday.

A Prince William County Police Department forensics team is investigating human remains found near Minnieville Road and Route 234. 

Prince William County Police Department public information officer Jonathan Perok told Patch on Thursday police have found some human remains in the woods. 

"I don't think they're able to tell the sex," said Perok. "It's somewhat decomposed."
