Girl, 10, Struck by Car in Hit-and-Run Incident

Prince William County police are searching for a driver who struck a 10-year-old girl and left the scene.

The girl was taken to a nearby hospital where she was treated for minor injuries. Authorities said that the incident took place at 6:37 p.m. on New Year’s Day in the area of River Heritage Boulevard and Jefferson Davis Highway in Dumfries.

Police report that the girl was walking with her family on the sidewalk adjacent to River Heritage Boulevard when the driver of a pick-up truck left the roadway, drove onto the sidewalk, and struck the girl.

The driver kept going and was last seen driving north on Jefferson Davis Highway. No description of the driver was provided to authorities.

The car was described as a late model, dark full-sized pick-up truck that authorities say may have had a flat bed and body lift kit.
