Fatal Stabbing in Neighborhood Dispute

Gun Goes Off During Family Fight

The bullet did not strike either man, police said.

Two family members face charges after a gun went off while they were allegedly fighting, Prince William County Police said.

Stephen Allen Witt, 33, of Londonderry Court in Dale City, is charged with reckless handling of a firearm, possession of a firearm by a convicted felon and assault and battery. Damon Barry Witt, 37, of the same residence, is charged with unlawful wounding.

"Both accused individuals, who are family members, became involved in a verbal altercation which escalated physically," Officer Jonathan Perok, a spokesman for the Prince William County Police Department, said in a press release.

Police responded on Wednesday at 2:10 p.m. for a report of a fight. During the fight, a gun in the possession of Stephen Witt went off, Perok said, but no one was struck. Minor injuries were reported.

Damon Witt left the residence before the police arrived, but officers found him nearby. He was held on a $2,500 secured bond. Stephen Witt was held without bond.

maybe i'm wrong...but i think Joe G meant that IF they deport Spanish people over little or nothing...then "these guys need to be deported too." I personally would re-word that to say the One with the Gun should be deported ...or in this case....put away for a long long time. Not the other guy... people fight and argue over disputes all the time. When you bring a gun into it..it trumps it up to a whole other level and somebody is apt to get killed...period.

My guns must be defective since it takes me pulling the trigger to discharge any of them. Guess I need to get them to a gunsmith. The article shows proof that a gun ban will NOT prevent the bad guys (felons) from getting a firearm. SMH

Yes Armed and trained-you are correct. Rumor has it that his worthless girlfriend got the guns in her name so he would have access to them. He's a felon she obviously is not. I would like to think stricter controls would make it harder for people though. LIke for example the person getting the gun should have to sign a document or application, stating and verifying that they do not/will not reside with Felon(s). Then if a case like this happens she should be procecuted right along with him. And BTW, I've checked the jail...he has been released on bond. I feel less comfortable sleeping tonight.

Anoy, your idea makes perfect sense to me. Goes along with the old saying "locks keep honest people honest". A person might, I stress, might think twice if such a law was enacted.
