Marine Stationed at Quantico Found Dead of Apparent Shooting

The shooting has been called an isolated incident, and is still being investigated.

A Marine stationed at Quantico was found dead of what appeared to be a gunshot wound at his on-base housing on Saturday night, a Marine Corps Base Quantico release stated.

The Marine has been identified as Cpl. Daniel B. Vilevac, and officials are calling his death an isolated incident. First responders pronounced him dead on the scene.

The Naval Criminal Investigative Service is now investigating his death.

A Cuyahoga, Ohio native, Vilevac was assigned to the Charlie Company, The Basic School, as a rifelman and instructor-advisor. He trained newly-commissioned second lieutenants.

"Our thoughts and prayers are with Cpl. Vilevac's family, fellow Marines and friends following this tragic incident," said Col. Todd S. Desgrosseilliers, commanding officer of TBS. "Supporting and taking care of those affected by this loss is our top priority at this time."

The investigation is ongoing. To learn more about Vilevac's service, see the MCB Quantico release.
