Police have charged a Maryland man with attempted malicious wounding and petit larceny, Prince William County Police spokesperson Jonathan Perok said.

Rodney Carl Lynch, 58, was arrested March 4. Police initially responded to the Shoppers Food Warehouse at 14000 Shoppers Best Way in Woodbridge on March 4 shortly before 1 p.m. for the report of a shoplifter.

"Employees of the store detained an unknown man, later identified as the accused, after he had reportedly took items without paying for them," Perok said. "Prior to the officer’s arrival, the accused attempted to flee, and at one point, displayed a knife and threatened one of the employees. The employees were able to disarm the accused."
