Murder Charges: Two Different Stories in College Student's Death
Bond approved for David William Grimm Jr. of Woodbridge in death of Paul Johnson.
A judge has approved bond for David William Grimm Jr., 21, a Woodbridge man charged with second-degree murder in the death of a Norfolk-area college student.
A court hearing Friday offered two versions of events Feb. 23 on a street near Old Dominion University. Prosecutors have accused Grimm of a fatal unprovoked attack, while the defense argued that Grimm was trying to pull his friend from a fight and was defending himself.

Paul Johnson, 20, was found with a severe head injury at a 7-Eleven not far from where the incident occurred, he died later at an area hospital.
A friend of Grimm's, Christopher Chase Johnson, 20, of Woodbridge, is charged with misdemeanor assault in the case. Christopher Johnson is not related to the victim. Christopher Johnson was released on a $1,500 secured bond.
Grimm's bond was set at $25,000. The Virginian-Pilot notes, as a condition of his release, he must stay at his father's Woodbridge home and have a full-time job.
