One Dead in Shuttle Bus Wreck on Interstate 95

Overnight wreck near Lorton exit involves shuttle bus, according to Virginia State Police.

Original: One person is dead and more than a dozen were injured following an overnight wreck on Interstate 95 that included a small 16-person shuttle bus, according to Virginia State Police.

Police are looking for information on a second vehicle involved in the crash: a white, four-door sedan. State police are asking if anyone saw the white sedan prior to or following the crash, to call 703-803-0026.

At 3:28 a.m. Sunday, Virginia State Police were called to the scene in the southbound lanes of I-95, just south of Exit 163 for Lorton.

Witnesses told police that the shuttle bus was traveling south on I-95 when the speeding sedan swerved into the bus’s lane, according to state police spokesperson Corinne Geller. 

In order to avoid the car, the driver of the shuttle bus swerved, struck a guardrail and overturned.

One passenger died from his injuries after a helicopter transport to Inova Fairfax Hospital. A second victim was also transported by helicopter with serious injuries. The 14 other passengers and the driver were also taken to an area hospital for treatment. 

Information on the fatality and more information on the shuttle bus was not yet available Sunday morning.

All southbound lanes of I-95 were open as of 8 a.m., according to Geller.
