Pedestrian Hit By Police Cruiser Dies Monday

Prince William County Police say woman was intoxicated when struck in roadway Saturday.

A woman died Monday due to injuries sustained when she was struck by a police cruiser early Saturday morning.

Prince William County Police has identified the woman as Isabella Majano, 25, of the 15100 block of Georgia Road.

According to police, an officer was responding at 4:30 Saturday morning to a call of an intoxicated woman in the roadway in the area of Jefferson Davis Highway and Cardinal Drive.

In route to the scene, the officer was on Jefferson Davis Highway near Crest Drive when he encountered the woman in the roadway, according to police spokesman Officer Jonathan Perok.

"The officer attempted to avoid a collision but inadvertently struck the pedestrian," Perok said. "A truck was in the right lane next to the officer’s vehicle, which limited the officer’s ability to evade the collision."

Majano was transported to an area hospital and died Monday morning.

According to Perok, an investigation revealed that she was under the influence of alcohol and was not in a designated crosswalk at the time of the collision. Speed was reportedly not a factor in the incident.
