Police Blotter: Arrests, Carjacking and Reckless Handling of a Firearm

Woodbridge incidents reported by Prince William County police in the past week.

Attempted robber at the EZ Checks Cashed
Police are looking for three Hispanic males driving a white Ford Explorer after an attempted armed robbery at the EZ Checks Cashed occurred on Jan. 22.

Police said that it was reported that three unknown men entered the store on Occoquan Road where one of the men was armed with a handgun and the other had pepper spray.

The suspect with the pepper spray walked up to the counter, said police, and sprayed into the money slot. No entry was gained beyond the front entrance.

Men fled the area once they were told that police were coming, no injuries were reported.

  • The three suspects were described as between 17 and 30 years old, between 5’2” and 5’5” of medium build, all had their faces covered.
  • The first male was last seen wearing a camel button-up jacket over a black hooded sweatshirt, green cargo pants with light colored shoes.
  • The second male was last seen wearing a black hooded zip-up coat, balck jeans, and black shoes with white tips.
  • The last male was seen wearing a navy blue zip-up hooded sweatshirt with the number 12 on it and a design on the back, light jeans and tan boots.

Carjacking suspect arrested in Marumsco Plaza
A 35-year-old Woodbridge woman was forced out of her car at Marumsco Plaza on Jan. 24 after a man threatened her. The woman told police that she was warming up her car when the suspect approached her car.

After the victim left her car, the man fled. The woman’s car was found on Jefferson Davis Highway just over the Fairfax County line. Police said that Fairfax County Police K-9 was used to find the suspect.

Felix Mendex Garcia, of no fixed address, was charged with carjacking and has a court date set for April 13. Garcia is being held without bond.

Reckless handling of a firearm in Woodbridge home
A Maryland man was arrested after police responded to the 2700 block of Brier Pond Circle in Woodbridge for a shots fired call. Police said a caller reported a vehicle had been seen in a parking space and that the driver was firing a handgun out of the window.

Reportedly, the vehicle sped out of the area. No damage was reported to the property and no injures were reported.

Police said that once they saturated the area, they found the car in a parking lot near Jefferson Davis Highway and Allen Dent Road. Harvey L. Newman, Jr., 37 of District Heights, MD, was found and apprehended by a Prince William Police K-9 officer.

Newman was charged with possession of a firearm by a convicted felon and reckless handling of a firearm. His court date is unavailable and he is being held without bound.

Arrests made in burglary in process case
Two 14-year-old Woodbridge teens were arrested in reference to a burglary in progress that occurred on Jan. 14. Both teens were charged with burglary, grand larceny, unlawful entry and petit larceny.

One of the teens was charged with providing false identification to the police and obstruction of justice.
